New Year’s Eve At Canada Place

The downside of working in the hospitality industry is that most times you have to work stat holidays. That kinda puts a damper on celebrating said stat holidays with friends and families.

The upside? Some hotels perks, likes staying over and room service. Good thing Sean was such a good egg about it.

Concorde’s New Years Eve festivities at Canada Place should’ve been hella packed, as it’s the biggest family friendly event in town. This year’s event was highly anticipated – as it was to also kick off Canada’s 150th anniversary year.

But as the snow has not stopped falling the past few weeks and most roads have not been cleared in the burbs, transportation plans have been royally borked. As a result, the number of revellers who came down to the Waterfront to celebrate was significantly reduced compared; 70,000 this year compared to last year’s event attendance of 80,000.

Sean and I were able to come in – we had to trudged through knee high snow, walking half an hour to the skytrain station. It seemed however, that most people out in the burbs decided to stay in or nearby, as the train in was fairly empty.

We grabbed some dinner before making our way to the Pan Pacific Vancouver. Then after checking in to our room, we headed out so I could live-tweet and take pictures of Pan Pacific activities, the live musical entertainment right outside our doors at Canada Place, the plethora of  food trucks, family fireworks at 9pm, and midnight countdown with spectacular fireworks over Coal Harbour – the big draw of the night.
