Opera Chic

Amongst the many books I have on my bookshelf are 3 well loved real-life street fashion books that I bought when I lived in New York: The New York Look Book, Misshapes Book and Nylon Street.

Inspired by these taken-on-the-spot look books and seeing more 20-40 year olds attending Vancouver Opera performances the past year, I pitched an idea to my boss that had been percolating inside my head: I wanted to photograph the hip and stylish PYTs attending the opera for our Facebook.

Don’t Feed The Bloggers

I risk sounding like a broken record but I really do LOVE my job. I’m thu-rilled that I’m part of such a forward thinking, innovative and creative team at Vancouver Opera. Without a doubt, we are one of the most exciting opera companies to watch. Not only did we get international shout outs and accolades for creating the world’s first opera manga, but now we went and got ourselves noticed at CBC Radio 2 and Opera Chic again.

Not The Girly Type

For those of us who went to tonight’s archery meet, we didn’t know it but there was a surprise in store for us. Tonight was the first anniversary of the archery’s group. So I got to shoot and have cake too. Wicked.

What’s New, Pussycat?

If I won the lottery tomorrow, one of the many things I’d do would be to open a no kill animal sanctuary. Yup, a city chick like me buying plots of land out in the countryside so that stray, injured and abandoned animals could be rescued and sheltered until they’re adopted. Animals that would be housed in cozy home-like settings and pastures and not in cages.

I believe that animals are absolutely essential to our well-being.

New Years Sniffles

gatwick express sign
Fearing the worse with holiday travelers returning home and not wanting a repeat of that close-call getting to Gatwick like last time, I woke up early to pack.

After a quick brekkie, I was on my way. Nathan and Michelle walked me to the station. (bless) I can’t believe that that was a week! It flew by all too quickly.

New Years Eve in Hipsterdom

It was a verging on panic, run around and get everything done kinda day. Being that it’s New Years Eve and that I have one more sleep in London, I ran around with Michelle getting last minute gifts. I even passed up an opportunity to join VyVy and Nathan who went to the country for a day trip. And we all know how much I love the English countryside. It would have been fantastic to check out idyllic Shere, which was featured in the movie, The Holiday. If only there was more time.

Fashion Hotbed

Michelle, VyVy, Nathan and I journeyed out to the V&A Museum, my favourite museum in London. When we got there, we all split up to do our own things and meet up later.

I just HAD to see the Fashion V Sports exhibit, which explores the relationship between street fashion and sportswear brands. The exhibition features 60 outfits including tracksuits, trainers, bathing suits and leotards from designers Stella McCartney, Dries van Noten, and Sonia Rykiel.

The Importance Of Good Food

Michelle and I thought that it would be a breeze to head down for a ride on the London Eye this early afternoon. Boy were we wrong and unprepared for the onslaught of holidayers thinking the same exact thing.

It was a zoo from the time we walked out of Westminster station, over Westminster Bridge, past the London Aquarium, Dali Museum and to The Eye. However, on a positive note, it was a beautiful warmish winter day and we got to take in glorious views of the Parliament Building and the river Thames.

Girls Day Out

Just when I was getting used to being in Hoxton, home of the famous Hoxton fin (a variation of the faux hawk made famous and sported by lads in the Hoxton/Shoreditch districts in the early 2000s), I had to move.

Chris was heading to Wales with friends for New Years Eve, so I bid him bye bye and moved from Hoxton over to East London to stay with my very good friend from New York, Michelle and her friends, VyVy and Nathan for the remainder of my trip.
