Traveling Iceland’s South Coast

For such a small country, Iceland is crammed with waterfalls, volcanoes, lava fields, tectonic plates, fjords, mountains, canyons and glaciers. There’s too much to see and a one week visit would not even touch the tip of the iceberg. (ha!) I wouldn’t even be able to fulfill my dream of driving route 1 all around the country. Not this visit. But I would at least get to experience canyons and glaciers this time around.

Driving The Golden Circle

Having sussed out Reykjavik and after talking to my AirBnB hosts, I felt confident to rent a car and drive the Golden Circle by myself. The roads were paved, the route was pretty straight forward and you can do the trip in less than a day. If I could drive the Pacific Coast highway from San Simeon to Monterey and from Alhambra into Los Angeles, I can most certainly drive around Iceland.

Viðey Island: Imagine Peace Daytrip

Iceland is stunning. STUNNING, I tell you. It’s picture perfect and I am constantly wowed at all. That. Green. And blue sky and water.

Being a long time Beatles fan (thanks mom + dad for raising me right!), there was no doubt that I had to make a day trip out to Viðey Island. Besides being a beautiful and idyllic getaway, it is home to Yoko Ono’s love monument to John Lennon.
