RAPS AKA City Of Cats

Until recently, I didn’t know that Vancouver had a no-kill cat sanctuary. I always told Sean that if I was uber rich and didn’t have to “work” for a living, I would love to open a no-kill animal sanctuary. Preferably on acres and acres of farmland.

I was pleasantly surprised to find out about the Rap Society, or Richmond Animal Protection Society, located on No. 6 Road. With over 400 resident cats, RAPS is North America’s largest cat sanctuary. While most of the cats were surrendered by their humans, a small percentage have health or behaviour problems or are feral.

And every Sunday, between 1pm-4pm, the sanctuary is open to the public.

Bed Of Petals

Not only did I scoop up puddles of petals on the sidewalk – but then again, the streets were all washed clean from the prior night’s rainstorm – but I also didn’t hesitate to lay down on the sidewalk to appreciate the blossoms. (germaphobe, be damned!)

It’s Snowing Blossoms

What could be more spring than cherry blossom trees? The herald of longer days, warmer weather and child-like dispositions. I wish it could be like this all year round. As much as cherry blossom trees make me happy, it also fills me with sadness because I know they’re so fleeting. But maybe that’s the point. You must stop everything and appreciate something when it presents itself to you.

Charlie Goes To The Vet

black cat going to the vet
Our darling kitty was born with a bit of a respiratory affliction. Whenever he gets stressed, he gets a “winky” eye, when the left or right eye would get enflamed and then would require some ointment to help clear it up. When it gets like this, sometimes, his breathing would be slightly wheezy too.

We ran out of ointment and since it’s requires a prescription, we had to bring Charlie to the vet for a refill and a check-up. And don’t all cats (and dogs) love going to the vet?

My poor little peanut. Whenever he wasn’t being handled by the vet, he would either be hiding behind me, or clinging onto me. To make him feel secure, I hugged him close, Enclosing him with my coat. Course, he had no trouble getting into his carrier when the checkup was over.

You can bet that we gave him lots of love and extra treats when we got home.

Weekend Alarm Clock

black cat waking up its owner
One of the things I look forward to most on the weekend – besides sleeping in – is this little furry face greeting me with neck cuddles. Or better yet, if I’m lucky, he’ll paw at the covers, letting me know that he wants to cuddle. That’s my cue to make a fort with our pillows, so that there’s an opening he can get into. Then he’ll curl up, usually against my stomach and be my little spoon. Sometimes it’s for a short time. Sometimes it’s for hours.

I live for these weekends because really, how can I possibly resist this face?

Leapfrogging With Commander Hadfield

Only Commander Hadfield could get me up at the ungodly hour of 630am. I was so excited for Vancouver Board of Trade’s Leapfrogging Innovation to Business Revolution tech forum. It’s one thing to have met him through a book signing, but it’s an entirely different experience hearing him speak. The man is an amazing speaker. He’s charismatic, intelligent and an eloquent storyteller. We were completely in awe of him.

Filming The Flash

filming of the flash in vancouver
The Flash filming right outside my office. The perks of being downtown right by Hornby Plaza, or Central City in the show.

Here’s the wide shot, chock-a-block with extras, waiting to film a walking scene. Or rather, everyone was walking but The Flash was standing still. The finished scene may look like a sped up one with post effects? Just have to wait and see…

This is the third time The Flash filmed in our neighbourhood. However, this is the first time I saw The Flash‘s Barry Allen! So cool. One of my new favourite shows of the season.

Kurios: A Steampunk Cirque-cus

Seeing is disbelieving. Reality is relative.

And with that, I could not think of a better first Cirque du Soleil show to attend than Kurios: Cabinet des Curiosites. The steampunk girl in me have been excited for this since they kicked-off their traveling show in San Francisco last year.

Although Cirque has brought their traveling shows to Vancouver – although not this one – I always held off going because I wanted my first show to be special. Memorable. I would’ve wanted to catch a resident Vegas shows over any that came to town. I would wanted to see The Beatle’s Love, Michael Jackson One or O. But I was happy to pop my Cirque cherry with Kurios.
