The (Space)Ship That Launched A Thousand Faces

My visage has been launched into orbit. Aliens from another world now know what I look like and may come to earth to find me. And the hundreds of thousands of others who participated in NASA’s Face in Space program.

And yes, it did cross my mind about sending a picture not unlike the facial expressions of General Zod, Ursa and Non when banished by Jor-El into the Phantom Zone.

Anyways, I submitted a picture of myself months ago to fly with the space shuttle Endeavour mission STS-134. (welcome aboard!)

The 134th and final scheduled shuttle flight for Space Shuttle Endeavour launched on May 16, 2011. On the 16-day mission, space shuttle Endeavour will deliver spare parts including two S-band communications antennas, a high-pressure gas tank, additional spare parts for Dextre and micrometeoroid debris shields. The research center AMS-02 will also be transported for installation on the ISS.

There were a total of 128,940 faces and names flown on this mission!

The mission was originally scheduled for April 19 but had been postponed until May 16. Which meant that I had to wait longer for my commemorative flight certificate.

As of mission STS-134, I am now one of the 337,260 total participants of the program. One in 9,235 canadians. I feel like such a member of an elite club. With full on bragging rights.

Sign up on the NASA website to get yourself launched. The final shuttle flight STS-135 is targeted for July 8. Come to think of it, I might even go again. Maybe this time I WILL play it like a superman villain.
