When Life Hands You Lemons

Ever since Charlie got “coned”, he’s learned to tweak his regular habits and routine. For starters, the cumbersome 10cm cone is probably pretty heavy, not to mention incredibly awkward when it comes to walking around. Our little cat now has a strut a la pimp. His whole body sorta does the sashay from side to side, in order to balance the cone. Not that we’re laughing, but it’s pretty cute.

The first couple of days, we feed water to him via dropper and hand feed him kibble. But he soon sorted it out by flicking some kibble out of the dish with his paw and then dropping his entire head, just so the cone’s edge is flushed with the floor and eating it that way. He looks like a little vacuum, hoovering his kibble.

Charlie prefers to drink from a faucet, even though we have a few bowls of water laying about. He’s learned to tilt the cone just so… so that he’s able to lap up the droplets. so what if he gets his cone wet in the process?

And the funniest thing? I was watching him maneuver into his hide, perch and go box. I thought there was no way he could fit that 10cm circumference into the opening, but he patiently persisted. And when he did make his way in, I thought for sure he might get stuck and wouldn’t be able to turn himself around. But he did. That’s my boy.
