Do you hit up Denny’s on your birthday for a free meal? We do! Does that make us old and lame? Perhaps, but we’ll happily own it.
Sean and I decided to forgo any big celebrations and presents for our respective birthdays and upcoming anniversary and save the money we would’ve spent for a future trip instead – when we would celebrate those occasions then.
As I’m having a bit of an emotionally heavy year, I also wasn’t up for anything big or celebratory. Just wanted something low-key with my favourite person and chowing down on comfort food throughout the day.
For dinner, Sean took me to one of our special occasion places, Hapa Izakaya in Yaletown, where I feasted on ebi mayo, agedashi tofu, various sushi rolls and creme brulee with vanilla ice cream for dessert.
You can’t go wrong with delicious food to nourish the soul. This was exactly how I wanted to celebrate my birthday this year.
