Insta-Hawaii: Reflections on Hawaii

We booked our birthdays slash anniversary combo trip to Hawaii in March. 13 days before our departure, the Kilauea volcano erupted, earthquakes were triggered, lava escaped through multiple fissures and an ash cloud was produced. We seriously considered cancelling our trip to the big island. We're glad we didn't. The volcano has devastated the remote areas of the lower Puna region and those residents have lost their homes, but the affected area contains 5% of the islands population. Besides Volcanoes National Park being closed as a precaution, the rest of Hawaii was absolutely safe + opened for business. Mainland media covering Kilauea eruption has caused a panic, directly affecting Hawaii's tourism industry. We spent an amazing 9 days, traveling all over the island.
