A Descent Into The Egyptian Museum Munich

sun god statue at egyptian museum in munich
I love Egyptian history and art, so if I’m ever traveling to a city where there’s an Egyptian museum, I will most likely visit it. I’ve seen Egyptian collections at world class museums like the met, the British Museum and the Louvre, but the Egyptian Museum Munich, in my opinion, is my favourite museum space to exhibit Egyptian artifacts. Granted, they may not have the “big draws”, but the space is modern, and well laid out.

Did I mention it was subterranean and inspired by ancient Egyptian burial chambers too?

Cy Twombly: In The studio At Museum Brandhorst

exterior of brandhorst museum munich
If you’re a fan of Cy Twombly’s artwork, like I am, then a visit to Museum Brandhorst is a must. Even if you’re not a fan, you have to see what the exterior of this museum looks like. The multi-coloured facade is glorious! 36,000 vertical ceramic rods, in 23 different coloured glazes, and 3 colour groupings makes the building look like a large, abstract painting from afar.

Inside, the museum’s Cy Twombly: In the Studio Collection features 200 works, including paintings, sculptures, drawings and photographs. The retrospective exhibit covers the abstract expressionist’s career from the 1950s to his last series of works he completely before his death in 2011.

Flashback To The 90s At The Peter Lindbergh: From Fashion To Reality exhibition

If you grew up in the 90s, you most likely know of the supermodels. And you’d know of them because of Peter Lindbergh, the photographer who shot, styled and basically launched their careers. But if you didn’t, you could get schooled at the Peter Lindbergh: From Fashion to Reality exhibition at Kunsthalle München – which I had the great fortune to come across. Serendipity!

Peter Lindbergh is regarded as one of the most influential photographers ever, introducing a new dimension of realism in fashion photography and the first to focus on the unique personalities of his models. And because of that, the models would become globally recognized just by their first names: Linda, Christy, Naomi, Cindy, Claudia, and Helena. Lindbergh also went on to shoot my favourite group of models after the glamazon era- the waifs: Kate, Amber, and Shalom.

Insta-Munich: Peter Lindbergh – From Fashion To Reality

Happenstance! Didn't even know this was taking place, but I'm so thrilled to have caught the Peter Lindbergh retrospective exhibit. I would've totally been upset had I missed it. I grew up on and loved Lindbergh's photos in the pages of Harpers Bazaar + Vogue. Lindbergh is credited with launching the supermodels with his white shirt campaign. As a result, George Michael would cast Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford and Tatiana Patitz for his "Freedom 90" video. Lindbergh would also help to launch the waif supermodels: Amber Valleta, Shalom Harlow and my fave of all time, Kate Moss. I loved this exhibit! If you're in #munich, don't miss it!
