Our time in Beijing had come to an end. After breakfast, we took an early morning flight to Xi’an. Formerly called Chang’an, the city once served as the capital of China for 1,100 years and was known as the eastern terminus of the Silk Road during the Tang Dynasty. I was so excited to be here, in the city of the terracotta warriors.

Too much cuteness! Here’s a pic of a mother and her panda cub, taken at the Chengdu Panda Base. where I’ll be going!
For more adorableness, check out this Tumblr that is dedicated to just pandas. Yes, someone actually thought of that and has curated these so-cute-I-want-to-fall-over pictures.
And if that wasn’t enough, Buzzfeed put together a list of the 25 best panda photos of 2011.
I can’t wait to see one for myself.

This is the Buddhazen Hotel! And where I’ll be staying at when I’m in Chengdu.
For my side trip to see the pandas, I wanted to stay somewhere unique, with an old world charm. I don’t think I could’ve found a better choice. The style of the hotel, housed in a traditional courtyard-style building, adheres to the Buddhist concept of zen.

My mom and I have been trying to organize a trip to China for the past few years, but for some reason or another, it always fell through. This year, however, we’re going!
For my mom, it’ll be the first time going back since she immigrated to Canada in the 70s. For me, it’ll be the first time going to Asia. This is sure to be interesting.

Going to China. To see about some pandas.
No big deal.
Yea, right! I can’t wait to feast my eyes on these adorable fuzzos! And if I’m lucky, hug one too!
