Stealing the acronym from righteous gal, Elise Andrew of ‘I F*cking Love Science‘, I spent the day at Science World with my friend from out of town, Mat. It happened to be culture days weekend, which meant there was no cover charge, which meant tons of parents and their kidlets.

Every year, my work holds its annual conference and rotates the locale between Victoria, Kelowna and Whistler. This year, I got to spend 6 days up in Whistler with my communications team. And we worked our asses off for 12-16 hours each day.
It was quite the team-bonding experience: working together in the “war room” or command central, delivering newsletters at midnight to 750+ attendees, nightly dinners, lumberjack themed fun night and awards dinner & gala.

It was 2 years ago today when Charlie came into our lives. Sean and I may say we adopted him but really, he adopted us. I can’t imagine what our lives would be like without this little fuzzy face.

Jonesy. On the bed. Jonesy on the bed with me!
Well, this was a pleasant surprise to wake up to. Ordinarily, I wouldn’t post something that looks so mundane, but this is kinda huge. Jonesy got onto the bed with me in it. That milestone only took 10 months.

San Juan Islands – you were so much fun. We’ll be sure to come back soon.

We’re on island time, y’ know…
After such an amazing night kayaking on bioluminescent waters, everything else is pure gravy.
So armed with a map, we set off bright and early to explore San Juan Island. We drove up the northern tip of the island, about 15 minutes, to Roche Harbour. More to see and do, this small resort community was less sleepy than Friday Harbor.

After re-combobulating, Sean and I awoke from our nap and walked up to Discovery Sea Kayak to check in for our bioluminescence tour.
We were told to arrive at 7pm, an hour before sunset – that’s when we would set off for the launch site. We lucked out. Besides us and the guide, there were only two other couples who also turned up for the kayaking trip.

Ordinarily, Sean and I wouldn’t even think of traveling on a long weekend – especially, the last, long weekend of the summer, labour day. But given that the moon would be the darkest on this particular week, well, we really didn’t have a choice.
Therefore, moon + bioluminescence tour trumps long weekend, cross-border travel.

I took Charlie to the vet the other day because his eye was acting up again. I wanted to make sure it was nothing serious. When I had adopted Charlie, I was told he’s vulnerable to respiratory problems and that includes, inflamed eyes.
Turns out that was all it was. Nothing that a 4 day course of eye ointment and daily lysine won’t fix.
But while I was there, a vet tech told me that Charlie is a Bombay cat. I always referred to him as a domestic short hair (which he is), but now I know what breed!

I just contributed to my second Kickstarter project!
The first time was for a documentary on David Lynch, which I gave Sean as a birthday present. This time around, it was just for me. And an educational one to boot!
