2012: A Retrospective

2012 retrospective
2012! What a whirlwind year you have been. Luckily for humankind, we did not bite it, as per the Mayan calendar. And lucky for me because that’s when 2 became 1.

So how did we get to this most important year? Drumroll, please!

January: A weekend of gaming with gamers on the island. Charlie the contortionist.

February: Getting out of dodge for that milestone birthday. Not sweating the small stuff on my Galiano weekend. Birthday celebrations continue with the BFF on the cusp. So that’s what goats look like when they’re preggo. California cousins come to visit, resulting in many nights of laughter and hilarity. A return to thwacking.

March: Our family portrait may not be suitable for framing if you’re going for the Norman Rockwell look. The high school girl in me was squealing in delight, along with the other cougars at the Platinum Blonde concert. Pulsating jellyfishes are so very calming. 1, 2, 3 years together! The northern lights and a wall of stars – I can strike that off the bucket list. Eating lunch and hanging out with 128 four-legged friends.

April: Sitting in the god seats and boxes at the ‘nucks game. Japan in Vancouver. Inconsistent weather borks up the cherry blossom trees at the Sakura Fest. What do I have to do to get my very own purge button? Taking in the sights and sounds and smells in Chinatown. Batman’s Tumbler comes to EA and all the nerds collectively lose their minds.

May: Being rained on by a snowstorm of cherry blossom petals. Hamming it up with a midget donkey. What did I do on my first day of (f)unemployment? Go to the zoo, of course. 259K+ likes, 33K followers, 62 contests and 2600 promo codes given away…The fat lady has sung.

June: Still trying to score that Robin Hood. Utterly hypnotized. Attend a Patrick Watson concert and you’ll feel like joining a traveling carnival troupe. Another day, another horses and a midget donkey visit. If money was no object, you betcha I’d buy an English telephone booth for my backyard garden. Trying not to back up into the phallic ceramic arts at the VAG.

July: Girls get together at the aquarium. Visiting a particle lab with a cyclotron and faraday cages because science. My little big-mouthed baby. A midsummer night’s lantern walk at Trout Lake.

August: Got carriers, will travel. Kitties venturing outside here, here and here. Checking out stuffed animals and slimey things in jars.

September: Shooting for Wile E. Coyote. Chester Bennington! Mike Shinoda! Fire cannons and fireworks! Sunny summer days mean kitty outdoor days, here and here. Riding horses through open meadows, creeks and rainforests in Pemberton. Happy adoption day to my little peanut.

October: Third time lucky! Finally got to see the fabulous Ms Manson in concert! The Tobias Wong exhibit impressed the pants off me. City mouse is going to be a country mouse (again) or deciphered: I’m moving to the ‘burbs. With Sean! Stroll down amnesia lane with a Halloween costumes recap. Channeling my inner Amelia Earhart.

November: Halloween hijinks. That’s a lot of scary pumpkins we carved.

December: Greetings from our new home in the burbs! Also co-habitation! New furniture, new roommate, first snow! The start of a beautiful relationship?

What a great way to cap off a year of tourists-in-your-own-city escapades, of weekend getaways, animal encounters and seeing the northern lights. And the highlight of the year has got to be getting to live under the same roof with the honey.

Cheers, 2012!
