Visiting Global BC and An Intro to TV Broadcasting

a visit to global bc studios
I’m currently working on completing my marketing management certificate and one of the courses that I took this semester was an introduction to television broadcasting. The 12 week class provided an overview of TV and video production, with an emphasis on single camera and studio production techniques.

For the first four weeks, we learned theory and visited the Global BC studio. We had a tour of the studio and control rooms, and got to watch a broadcast in real time with Global News Hour at 6 anchors Chris Gailus, Sophie Lui, and Squire Barnes.

For the remainder of the semester, we filmed live 10 minute (on the dot!) studio show each week. I got to take on the role of floor director, assistant director, director, audio operator, camera one operator, technical director, and then got to be on camera as guest and producer of my own segment.

Let me tell you, learning about tv broadcasting was fun. I always looked forward to class every week. I learned new skills and I had a blast. It’s also got me thinking about possibly taking more broadcasting related classes in the future. After I finish my marketing management certificate. Two more courses to go!
