Lost in the music

Platinum Blonde: Winter One Off Hits Vancouver

How has it been 8 years since I last saw Platinum Blonde in concert?!

Although the gig was not in my backyard this time, I didn’t mind heading downtown after a long day at work. Having lived in the burbs for the past 7 years, it’s nice to occasionally head into town for events. Plus the Commodore Ballroom is always a great venue for music.

Most of the attendees skewed older, of course, and pretty much everyone was singing along to all their hits. It was surprising to see so many guys take up room on the dance floor, along with all the cougars.

The band was in fine form – even better than the last time I saw them. Singer Mark Holmes was glammed up and looked every inch like a rock star, with a couple of wardrobe changes. He made his presidential candidate preference known with his t-shirt. If you follow him on social media, you’ll know that he’s very politically aware and vocal with what’s going on in the states. I like that about him.

As much as I love all of Platinum Blonde’s bangers, I was really glad they performed Somebody Somewhere and Sad, Sad Rain – 2 of my favourite songs from them.

When they said their goodbyes during their encore, they dropped some good news. The band will be back our way in the summer! If that’s the case, there’s a good chance that I may be seeing them again.

Until then, here’s their setlist:

1. Somebody Somewhere
2. Garden
3. Not in Love
4. Valentine
5. Standing in the Dark
6. Wired
7. Sad Sad Rain
8. Hi 2 B Lo
9. If You Go This Time
10. Beautiful
11. Lost in Space
12. Situation Critical
13. Unbeatable
14. Connect Me
15. Doesn’t Really Matter

Encore:
16. Unbelievable
17. Contact
18. Crying Over You
