About the girl, Lost in the music

Spotify: 2021 Wrapped

It’s the end of another year, and even though we’re still in a pandemic, that doesn’t mean that I can’t re-wind and look back at all the comfort tunes I lost myself in on Spotify.

Let’s see how much my listening habits changed from 2019 and 2020, shall we? Drum roll, please…

My top artist of 2021 was BTS. Sorry, Harry Styles. (I still love you!)

According to my Spotify, I spent a total of 855 minutes (or 14.25 hours) listening to them and I couldn’t get enough of Butter.

Other little factoids:

  • I spent 20,528 minutes listening to Spotify. That’s more than 70% of other listeners in Canada.
  • My audio aura or top music moods: wistful and cozy.
  • I listened to 99 different genres this year.
  • I listened to 1,141. different artists.
  • The song I binge-listened to the most was Cold Heart – PNAU Remix.

So out of my top 5 artists, one is a new favourite, three are old favourites, and one is a soundtrack composer (47 Ronin). I think it’s safe to say that one soundtrack composer should always make it on my list because I love listening to soundtracks.

Here’s my top 10 songs of 2021:

  1. Butter – BTS
  2. Dynamite – BTS
  3. Permission to Dance – BTS
  4. ON – BTS
  5. Savage Love (Laxed – Sirent Beat) [BTS Remix] – Jawsh 685, Jason Derulo, BTS
  6. On and On – Curtis Harding
  7. Cold Heart – PNAU Remix – Elton John, Dua Lipa, PNAU
  8. Is It Any Wonder? – Durand Jones & The Indications
  9. Fimm – BrĂet
  10. Bizarre Love Triangle – Live at Alexandra Place – New Order

Half my top 10 in 2021 is BTS. I’m not even embarrassed. I love BTS. In fact, when I went to get my vaccinations, I watched BTS videos to calm my nerves. And I will continue to listen to them in 2022.

Thanks for the deep dive, Spotify. Until next year.
