Washi Vs Frank

And if you don’t know who Washi and Frank are, think Kubo and the Two Strings vs Hellraiser.

After taking a year off from pop culture slash movie inspired costumes and dressing up like a mythological fire bird, my comeback this year was a rather ambitious one. And because it’s me, I chose one that didn’t have a lot of references online either.

I even entertained the notion of playing both of the twin sisters too. The costumes were identical. The only difference was in the choice of weapons – one brandished a katana and pipe, while the other wielded a kusarigama or scythe.

But as per usual, it was a case of eyes being bigger than the stomach. I have the ambition of a cosplayer, but not the time. I had to remind myself that this was just a Halloween costume, and not a comic-con contest. The big thing was that I had to come up with a way to make the mask without plaster casting my face or using oven-baked clay. So I went with buying a mask and building the brow/nose shape.

I also didn’t have time to fashion the eagle clawed scythe. In the end, I could only pull together Washi’s weapons. If I had just one more day, I would’ve even finished up spray painting the sister’s sandals. Ugh.

Sean went with his usual horror movie choice, and continuing to annually cycle through all his favourites movies and iconic characters. Don’t ask me about Frank or Event Horizon’s Dr. Weir. Those 2 movies scared the poop out of me and I have blocked them out from my memory.

I know most everyone opted out of Halloween this year, but we could not. Halloween is our favourite holiday and we normally eschew parties and just stick close to home.  COVID-19 put a damper on a lot of things this year, but we were determined Halloween was not going to be one of them.

For those who partook, I salute you and hope you were able to enjoy Halloween in this strange (and hopefully, one off) year also.
