Everything Alice In Wonderland

alice in wonderland exhibit at V+A museum of childhood
Having been a huge Alice in Wonderland fan for most of my life, I was really chuffed that my visit to London would coincide with the 150th anniversary of the first publication of Lewis Carroll’s Alice books.

Oh, if only I had more time so that I could’ve day tripped out to Oxford to take in the tea parties, croquet games and famous boat ride that inspired the book. Or to Cambridge or Bath to join the Mad Hatter tea party. Or any other numerous celebrations in the country.

But I did make a required stop to the V+A Museum of Childhood to check out their exhibit: The Alice Look. The exhibit featured garments, photographs, rare editions and illustrations showing Alice as a style icon and how she continues to inspire and influence celebrities and fashionistas today.

Insta-London: Secret Cinema – The Empire Strikes Back

View this post on Instagram

i've been a fan of secret cinema in london for years. and tonite, i got to be a partipicant for their fully immersive 'the empire strikes back' movie event. highly secretive, the location isn't disclosed until the last minute. and when you get there, your phone is vacuum sealed so no photos taken or leaked. my role was that of a governor of the alliance (although i wish i got creative council or alliance starfighter). i was to bring blueprints to trade for information. the experience was technically unreal and fun with holograms, video projections and hollywood set worthy pieces, like luke's landspeeder, the planet of tattooine, an actual re-creation of the cantina bar, life-sized x-wing fighter jet with pilot, hung from the rafters and flown across our heads. not to mention chewbacca, C3PO and R2D2, imperial guards, stormtroopers, jawas, darth and co walking amongst us. no expenses were spared. it was all super impressive. then after our missions, it culminated with a big-a** screening of 'empire strikes back.' what an epic way to (almost) close out my trip. like i always say, no city can outdo london or new york when it comes to social events.

Street Art In East London

adore endure street art in east london
Back to East London! The reason was two-fold: the first, to purchase my costume for  Secret Cinema’s The Empire Strikes Back Experience (!) tonite and the second to explore the area and search for street art.

After my Camden Street Art Tour, I decided to strike out on my own this time. East London is a canvas of street art, so it wasn’t very hard to come across lots of really good ones. Note to self: next time I’m in London, I must spend more time in this area.

Hanging Out With The Kitties At London Cat Village

V+A museum gates
If I had to choose, which London museum would be my ultimate favourite? The British Museum or the V+A? That’s a toughie. I enjoy them both but for different reasons. Not sure if I would be able to answer. It might just depend on the mood I was in when asked.

On the one hand, the V+A is the world’s largest museum on arts and design. But on the other hand, the British Museum is dedicated to human history, art and culture. But any time I’m in London, I make it my mission to visit both of them. Bonus point: V+A has a cafeteria that serves cream tea!
