Niecelet’s 6th Birthday

My niece turned 6! Wherever did the time go? She’s such a little tomboy now, this one. If it’s even remotely girly, then it’s not for her. She take legos and dinosaurs over Barbies any day. I wish she was into the more girly things, so that I could share with her my childhood loves, but she’s her own little person and I respect that.

One thing that makes me happy though, is that she doesn’t dig on hockey. Even her daddy can’t turn her a Canucks fan, despite clothing her in a Luongo jersey. That a girl!

She is, however, all over that Gagnam style, as is most of the world, though it is my personal belief that that song needs to die a fiery death. I don’t blame her – she’s young and her taste is still developing. And I guess PSY is as funny as he is funny looking.

Sidenote: what is the rest of the world’s excuse?

Happy birthday CC.  With each passing year, I enjoy seeing how you evolve and grow.

First Snow In The ‘Burbs

This is my life now. Check out what we woke up to this morning in Burquitlam. Thank goodness for my fella who shovelled our 60+ feet driveway, just so I could get out.

We’ve lived in our new home just over 2 weeks and I’m getting a very real sense of how different life in the ‘burbs will be, compared to in the city. Commute. Snow. And commute in said snow. Oh, and I should also mention that Vancouver being at a lower elevation, got no snow today.

But there are upsides, which I try to keep in mind. Our 1800+ feet rancher. Sizable backyard, lined with humongous trees. And that on snowed in weekends, we’ll while the day away, basking in the warmth of the fireplace in our bedroom, while reading our books and sipping on hot chocolate.

We’ll Be Back Shortly

Thump, thump.

… Is everybody in? The ceremony is about to begin…

We are now moved into our new digs! Getting settled in, with a few boxes left to unpack. And we finally got our internet hooked up today. It felt both strange and a relief not to be online for so long.

Blogging shall resume shortly, but in the meantime, here’s a pic of chuckles and me. One of the very last of us at my house. I am beyond thrilled to report that he hasn’t given up on neck cuddling his human at the new place.

Little Buddha Cat

This is Charlie trying to distract me from organizing for our big move. ‘rub my belly for good luck’ would be the purr-fect caption for this photo.

You’re rubbing your computer screen right now, aren’t you? Thought so.

Little Chuckles

It’s only a couple of weeks until we move into our new place. I’ve been busy planning and organizing, as well as, paring down and donating things to charity. And throughout it all, I have been spending extra quality time with Charlie, for little does he know, there’ll soon be another kitty (and human) under his roof.

Halloween 2012: A Recap

aviator costume
That’s me, beaming like a fool because I like Halloween fun times so very much. And although we’re all getting older every year, that hasn’t stopped us from dressing up. Heck, I think adults have hijacked Halloween from the kidlets!

There are 3 for sure things I just have to do for Halloween:

1. Watch our friends, The Unlevels, play their annual gig at the Eagles Hall.
2. Even if Peggy and I head to different parties, we have to meet up.
3. And last but not least, pumpkin carving with Sean, while watching horror movies.

Dreaming Of Flight

Some little girls dreamed of being a teacher when they grew up. Or a vet. Or a ballerina. I, however, harboured dreams of being an aviatrix – the next Amelia Earhart. I was enamoured by the idea of taking to the skies, of complete freedom and traveling to strange lands, of the peaceful feeling one must get when looking at the world from a different perspective.

Oh, and did I mention that one of my favourite childhood books was The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery?

So this Halloween, I wanted to give a nod to the little girl in me and dress her up as an aviatrix.

Little Monkey On My Back

Ever get that feeling that someone is peering over your shoulder?

So cute. Charlie stood up, furry belly and front paws on my back, in the effort to tear me away from my laptop and play with him. It worked. And I am so easy.

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

object(ing): the art/design of tobias wong exhibit
I know I often lament that Vancouver is hardly the cultural mecca that London, Paris or New York is, but there was one exhibition that I had been excitedly waiting for these past few months. That is Object(ing): The Art/Design of Tobias Wong at the Museum of Vancouver. The fact that Vancouver is the first city ever to present a solo exhibition of local boy turned internationally acclaimed (para)conceptual artist, impressed the pants off me.
