2021: A Retrospective

2021. It wasn’t great, but it could’ve been a lot worse.

So it may not have been the dumpster fire as the previous year, but it was still kind of a trashcan fire of a year because the pandemic wasn’t done with all of us yet.

However, there was hope on the horizon.

Vaccines became available to adults within the first half of the year. And with that, growing confidence that we could safely and responsibly have a handful of family dinners or friend get togethers. But it was still not back to the frequency as pre-pandemic times.

I still spent a lot of my time at home or around the neighbourhood. However, we did start going to the movie theatres again. By summer, we went to a public exhibit. And by fall, I started treating myself to hotel stays and weekend getaways.

Slowly but surely seems to be the motto for 2021. Which is better than time is meaningless which was the first half of the year.

Let’s rewind + reflect, shall we?

January: Still processing the loss of a very dear friend of mine.

February: Like the movie, every day was like a never-ending time loop. Even on my birthday.

March: Celebrating a dozen years together. I am angry and scared and can’t process.

April: Many days of walking around our neighbourhood for cherry blossom season. I miss live shows.

May: More walks. More blooms. Getting my first jab.

June: Best cat purchase ever. In fact, I should get two. OMG, this is the first time we’re out with so many people around us.

July: Our cats are adorbs. Seriously.

August: Everyone has a weird little monster inside of them.

September: Our first overnight hotel stay and it was just what we needed. Visiting our bovidae friends. A weekend getaway to Sunshine Coast where I stay in an airstream.

October: Solo staycation at my favourite boutique hotel. Inspo board for this year’s Halloween costume.

November: Born bad, and a little mad. I Halloween at home as Cruella De Vil.

December: This year was all about BTS. My favourite of the septet? V and Jung Kook, of course. Another solo staycation downtown. Still no friends or family time during Christmas but we continue to be hopeful for changes next year. Same as it for traveling. But at least we have a festive looking house, right?

Maybe next year I can add on plane travel? And dinners out?

Here’s hoping 2022 will be better. Let’s everyone hold on just a little bit longer. x
